Laboratorio Energia Ambiente Piacenza

LEAP: – Laboratorio Energia Ambiente Piacenza – is a research center operating in energy-environment sector. The objects of LEAP are to carry out research projects, provide consultancy and services, and carry out technology transfer actions for both industry and public organizations. In addition, LEAP carries out experimental activities and tests on plants, organizes training courses and science dissemination initiatives.

Within HERCCULES , LEAP is:

- Project Coordinator and Leader of WP1 “Project Management and Quality Control”, supervising the scientific accuracy of documents and protecting the commercialization of project outcomes.
- Providing assistance in the design of the different pilot plants and the analysis of the data obtained during the experimental campaigns (WP2 and WP3).
- Demonstrating at TRL7-8 the integration of a CO2 mineralization process with CO2 capture process in cement plant (WP4).
- Conducting techno-economic analyses of the southern European CO2 chain and its expansion at European level (WP7).
- Conducting LCA and CBA studies to quantify the overall impact of the various HERCCULES technologies (WP9).

The most relevant CCUS projects where LEAP is and has been involved in, are: 

- CaLby2030 – Horizon Europe project whose main goal is to act as enabling tool to achieve, by 2030, commercial deployment of Calcium Looping technology (CaL) using Circulating Fluidised Bed reactors.- https://www.calby2030.eu 

- CLEANKER – Horizon2020 project working towards the advancement of the integrated Calcium-looping process for CO2 capture in cement plants.- http://www.cleanker.eu/

- LEILAC 2 – Horizon 2020 project whose main goal is the construction of a demo plant with indirect calcination in a cement plant operating in Europe, enabling the capture of 100 ktpa of CO2.- https://www.leilac.com/project-leilac-2/
