Milan (MI), Italy

The "Silla 2" waste-to-energy plant is located in the north-west area of Milan and represents a perfect example of a circular economy. In fact, the combustion of waste generates steam to produce electricity and heat to feed the district heating network of the city and neighboring municipalities.

The plant went into operation in 2001 and is capable of treating over 500,000 tons of waste per year.

In 2021, the plant fed approximately 290 GWh of electricity into the national electricity grid, equal to the annual energy consumption of approximately 107,000 households.

Thessaloniki, Greece

The TITAN Thessaloniki cement plant was founded in 1962. Since the new production line came into operation in 2003, the TITAN Thessaloniki plant is one of the most modern cement production units in Europe, with state-of-the-art equipment, delivering high-quality products for sustainable construction in Greece and the region.

Prinos, Greece

Prinos Complex, North Aegean Sea. Greece’s sole hydrocarbon producing asset that will host the first CO2 storage project in the East Mediterranean.

Vernasca (PC), Italy

Vernasca cement plant was founded in Val d'Arda (Piacenza, Italy) in 1919. Later, in 1992, a new production line was built.

It is a modern plant with a production capacity of 1,300,000 tons/year. The Vernasca plant meets the highest ecological and environmental standards, and for this reason, it has recently been the site of important R&D activities, such as the construction of the first prototype of CO2 capture plant within the Buzzi group (www.cleanker.eu). It is estimated that this technology can capture over 90% of the carbon dioxide generated in the cement production process.

The plant has obtained several certifications related to quality, safety and environment:

  • Quality System Certification: ISO 9001 since 1996 (ICMQ)
  • Environmental System Certification: ISO 14001 since 1999 (ICMQ)
  • Occupational Safety and Health Certification: OHSAS 18001 since 2003 (ICMQ)
  • Environmental Product Declaration: since 2004
