HERCCULES and COREu projects join forces on the Dissemination event “Development of the CCUS Chain in Greece”

On September 17th 2026, the HERCCULES and COREu projects came together for the dissemination event “Development of the CCUS Chain in Greece”, bringing their networks and expertise together to discuss the growing role of CCUS in Greece.

Hosted and organised by CRES at the Great Club Kavala (Megali Leschi Kavalas), the event was supported by ENERGEAN, EUCORE, Steinbeis Europa Zentrum, LEAP, and the international consortia of both projects.

With over 70 participants from different european countries, the event created a lively space for exchange between project partners, key local industry and scientific stakeholders, academia, legislators, policymakers, and regulatory bodies. Discussions focused on sharing project results, experiences, and perspectives, while also exploring the technologies, opportunities, and challenges linked to the development of the CO₂ capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) value chain in Greece.

The event also included a Poster session from students of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) and a Press conference with an interactive Q&A session, during which several representatives from local media across the Kavala region—including newspapers, magazines and television outlets- had the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers.

A key highlight was the visit to Prinos CO₂ Storage project, operated by EnEarth, an ENERGEAN subsidiary, the first project of its kind in Southeast Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean, giving participants a first-hand look at a strategically important site and the region’s future potential for large-scale CO₂ storage.
